U.S. Representative Mark Kirk (R-IL10) announced his campaign for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Roland Burris at 522 Melrose Ave., Kenilworth, Monday, July 20, 2009, in a late morning rally attended by the media and some Kirk critics. The traditional media (aka “corporate media”) covered the event.

What can I write about the event that will complement the traditional media coverage? CBS2, Chicago Tribune (Rick Pearson), Sun-Times News Group,WGN (Maureen Wolf)

The people that attended seemed to be a broad coalition of Kirk supporters and the Republican Party. The Kenilworth Police Department provided partisan law enforcement for the candidate. Kirk critics from HCAN (Health Care for America Now) were denied First Amendment rights and Kirk supporters were allowed to engage in low level physical intimidation.
