Liveblogging (sort of) from Foster Headquarters!

by: bridgetdooley

Fri Mar 07, 2008 at 14:11:26 PM CST

Before I hot the doors for the evening, I thought I'd stop in and report what's happening out here in IL-14.

There's tons of people out from within the state and  from across the country. Several "super volunteers" who volunteered with Bill in Pennsylvania hopped planes out to Aurora and are pounding the pavement with the rest of us.

The scientist and engineer activists are out in full effect, including current and former Fermilab scientists and support staff and academic colleagues of Bill's. There are several people here from around the country who went to grad school with Bill and are incredibly excited about his campaign.

Labor is on board with folks from IUPAT, SEIU, AFSCME, IBEW, and Letter Carriers everywhere. The Letter Carriers local in Aurora is one of the most militant unions I've had the pleasure to know and work with! You've got to love militant mailmen and women who want to see a change in their government.

The Seals campaign has sent a bunch of people and the Harper campaign, too. Even Jill Morgenthaler running in IL-06 sent people! Obama's Illinois organization is on board, too. In fact, I received a call from Obama's Chicago headquarters this morning asking me to volunteer! The woman on the other end of the line was pretty heartened to hear that I was already here!

I said "sort of" liveblogging because I'm not sure when I'll be back.

The turf is all cut for tomorrow and we're ready to go! And the best part?

There's no sign of Oberweis' people on the street ANYWHERE!

Crossposted from my blog.

I just received the following press release from Bill Foster's campaign for Congress in IL-14.

Treasurer Giannoulias has done an excellent job proving his credibility and effectiveness since being elected and has earned the respect of many Democrats statewide. His endorsement will undoubtedly provide a boost to Foster's campaign.

by: SAldrich

Tue Mar 07, 2006 at 20:19:28 PM CST

This seems like a dandy fine and excellent idea, more communities should consider hosting these types of events (could well say it applies to so-called 'virtual communities' as well, such as this one *nudge-wink* ;p)

From today's Beacon News:

A Day of Dialogue

AURORA - Next month, hundreds of Aurorans will engage in conversation that is hoped will bring this diverse city closer together.

Kane County: ELECTION NIGHT POLL WATCHERS NEEDED

by: SAldrich

Fri Feb 10, 2006 at 05:36:10 AM CST

Received via email late last evening.

This all ties back to the eSlate Voting Machines being used for the first time in Kane County for the March Primary Elections and related issues (or shall we call more accurately call them 'live experiments' at voters and taxpayers expense).

Illinois elections are wide open to computer vote fraud.

Safeguards are inadequate or nonexistent.

Illinois has no protection against malicious programming, hacking or rigging of computer-based elections.

Add to this mix, Early Voting, use of Optical Scan Ballots and eSlate machines in Aurora (and Dupage County), Absentee Balloting, how the eSlate machines will be safeguarded and protected during the "rolling polling places" caravans across Kane County once early voting begins, voter confusion about how the new eSlate machines work (and ensuring their votes are accurately recorded and counted).

Seems to me we have the makings for a "yet another fine mess" once the Polls close come election night.

eSlate Approved by SBE for Kane County

by: SAldrich

Tue Feb 07, 2006 at 10:20:07 AM CST

This also from the local press last week, the 'final verdict' is in for the new eSlate voting system.

State OKs Kane election equipment

GENEVA — Kane County residents will face a whole new way of voting next month.

The Illinois State Board of Elections Monday approved the eSlate election system, clearing the way for Kane to use it in the March 21 primary.
