Trib: Even Though Lipinski too Cozy with Lobbyist Dad He's Still our Guy.

The corporatist Chicago Tribune, fellow travelers with the Chicago Machine, has endorsed Mark Pera's (website, donate, NDFA volunteer)  opponent Dan Lipinski, heir to Bill Lipinski's political fortunes.

How sophisticated an endorsement is that? In other words, "What do they know?" Well consider that they think Lipinski is finishing his first term in office - "he's growing into the job in his first full term". Nice going Trib. My how time passes when you're having fun, eh?

It would be much easier to endorse him if he didn't have such a cozy political relationship with his father, former Rep. William Lipinski. The father installed his son in his old seat and is now a lobbyist. The congressman's chief of staff gets paid to do work for something called the All American Eagle Fund, which the elder Lipinski created to pay for some local youth programs and funnels campaign contributions to other politicians. Lipinski, the son, has to tell his chief of staff he works for him, and only him.

Just another reason not to buy the Tribune... (4.00 / 1)

didn't Lip fail to show up (4.00 / 1)
for their endorsement session?  Or am I remembering that wrong? If that is the case, then they really have some 'splaining to do.

Seriously, this could not possibly more infuriating.  What kind of an endorsement is it when you point out so many negatives about the person you are endorsing that his opponents could use the quote in their own lit?

Arghhh.

Basic stuff: The common wealth should be used for the common good, not to enrich the well-connected few.

Bored Now posted the video - Lip was NOT there (4.00 / 1)
Does the Tribune WANT to be a laughingstock?

Corrupt -- check
Hiding from the voters -- check
Fails to show up for our endorsement session -- check
Tribune Endorsement -- naturally!

To the editor,

After admitting to Dan Lipinski's corrupt relationship with his lobbyist father, you endorse him anyway because "he works... well with Republicans."

You have a point: Dan has worked with Republicans to block federal funding for stem cell research and to keep giving President Bush blank checks for his war in Iraq. Given that you endorsed Bush in 2004, your support for Lipinski makes perfect sense. I'm glad you didn't hold his failure to show up for your editorial board's endorsement session and actually answer questions about his record against him. After all, why should he be bothered when he knew Mark Pera's argument that the 3rd District should be represented by a REAL Democrat would fall on deaf ears at your very Republican paper?

You should, however, have had the decency to reveal your partisan bias in your editorial. Or are you going to, once again, leave that to your Public Editor as you did with the Bush endorsement in 2004? (He put that one in context by reminding readers that the Tribune has endorsed every Republican candidate for President dating back to 1872.)

Disgustedly,

[Jim in Chicago]
