Further Proof That Jill Morgenthaler is Running in IL-06

Here is a call to volunteer to knock on doors for Jill Morgenthaler. Now I personally would say that if you have the time and the ability that a better place to work is for Mark Pera over in IL-03. That race is over on Feburary fifth whereas Morgehthaler's will be just beginning for real.

But if you only have a little time and Morgenthaler is close enough to fit a small budget then by all means go there without feeling guilt.

We are going to be having petition drives for Jill this Saturday and Sunday and next Saturday starting at 9:30am each day originating from our new campaign office (yes we have set up shop).

This weekend is supposed to be beautiful weather so it would be nice to get a big crowd. We will be sending people out to Farmer's markets, Halloween festivals, etc. For those who like knocking on doors, I will have that too.

Anyhow, let us know if that is something you'd be willing to do. The address is 190 N. Swift Rd, Unit M in Addison. If you have any questions, please stop by. Hope you can help.
  Thanks

What's the story on Morgenthaler? (0.00 / 0)
I just received a mailing on Morgethaler from supposed supporters.  It paints her as all about home land security, military, war with Iran, more pro war than Joe Lieberman.  If this is true, why are you supporting her?  If not true, what can you tell me about her now?

Also, as I recall, Rahm failed recently with another female warrior.  Who supporting her?

Mr Billb

What makes you think it was from (0.00 / 0)
supporters? Take a picture with your digital camera and post it here in a comment (after saving it on Flicker, Photobucket or the like)

Or are you referring to the anti-Morgenthaler piece that was mailed out?

As for our "supporting" (0.00 / 0)
her: first off we have made no formal support statement for her or actually anyone. We do have a lot of defacto support for some like Mark Pera. At the moment we are in a wait and see mode for just how much we may or not support Moregnthaler. Just running as a Democrat gets you some support here. Yes it's a low standard but the amount of support will be correspondingly low if that's all you've got going for you.

Rahm didn't recruit Col. Morgenthaler (0.00 / 0)
Rich Miller covered that and the flier a bit earlier in the week. (Unless this is a different flier.)

[ Parent ]
Yes (3.00 / 1)
I too am interested to find out what her positions are ... from her, and not a flyer by some suspect group. Or from rumor and innuendo.

I edited (0.00 / 0)
the phone number out. Apparently that was a personal number. Sorry.

Jeff Wegerson

Jeff, this is a call for petition circulators (0.00 / 0)
I'd imagine Mark Pera is probably already well over his minimums on petitions, but Col. Morgenthaler might need help depending on whether or not she's been circulating already.

And those petitions are for the Feb 5th primary.

Last day to turn in paperwork in Nov. 5th and the weather could turn nasty between now and then (like yesterday).

Petition circulation (0.00 / 0)
does a lot more than just gather signatures. As I know you know, it can be a major organization builder and is also an important early outreach. I still stand by my thinking of Pera first and then Morgenthaler if that's doable but not Pera.

Add to that that with Morgenthaler we could get another Lipinski if she wins and you have another reason to focus on Lipinski at this time. I actually think Morgenthaler will be a lot better than Lipinski but at this point I don't have a decent read.

And look, if she's at all worried about getting the signatures and really thinks we here would put her over the top, then she herself should be posting here and asking.

Don't cha think?

Jeff Wegerson

[ Parent ]
Add to that (0.00 / 0)
that Pera's signatures are guaranteed to be challenged but I bet not with Morgenthaler. OK I guess if the Republicans are really worried about her (and I bet they are) they would put someone up to challenge them.

Ok so back to my first comment.

Jeff Wegerson

I understand... (0.00 / 0)
...I'm of the opinion the more the merrier in a primary and would hope to see Col. Morgenthaler make it onto the Feb 5 ballot.

Given it would then be a contested primary, hopefully means some groups (perhaps even PSB) would host debates or forums and generate some press. Though a contested primary is a pain in the patoot, they tend to benefit the eventual nominee.

[ Parent ]
How come no one knows anything about her? (4.00 / 2)
Who recruited her? Is she actually running? what are her positions?  Why would we be interested in circulating petitions for her when we don't know that she's actually running AND we don't know where she stands on any of the issues we care about?

At this point, it would make sense to circulate petitions for Stan Jagla instead, since its clear he's actually running and lists his positions on his web site.  He may or may not have a chance, but at least he's up front.

Please fill me in (0.00 / 0)
I've been off the blog for a couple of months (60-80 hour work weeks after I got back from Japan) so I'm a bit confused by what I'm hearing about Jagla. On the one hand I hear him described as a Green (capital "G") and on the other hand I seem to hear he's running in the Democratic primary. Both can't be true.

What am I not getting?

Where'd you hear him described as Green? (0.00 / 0)
News to me if it's true.

Here's his website. He refers to himself as a Democratic candidate for Congress from the 6th District.

It seems strange (0.00 / 0)
that we have to be looking for clues and evidence to determine whether this candidate is running.

This is the sort of thing that is usually done openly, with fanfares of publicity, press releases, websites, etc.

My headline was meant more tongue in cheek. n/t (0.00 / 0)

I'm hoping for info soon. (0.00 / 0)
I emailed a guy at the DuPage Dems yesterday asking for info on Morgenthaler's positions and he sent me a email addy of a woman working for her campaign. I emailed her and asked her to post some positions at PSB, email me back or put up a rudimentary webpage. So far I haven't heard anything back which is understandable if they're trying to organize a petition drive today.

[ Parent ]
I supposed so (0.00 / 0)
yet the point remains.

Tammy Duckworth and Friends INVITES?  Shouldn't it be invite?  Tammy invites, Tammy and Friends invite.

Or am I too picky?

[ Parent ]
No you are not too picky (0.00 / 0)

[ Parent ]
Nit to the nit (0.00 / 0)
I think the implication is that "Tammy Duckworth and Friends" is some sort of organization. In the US, oragnizations are treated as entities in their own right and are therefore grammatically singular. In Britain, of course, they are treated as groups of people and therefor grammatically plural. So in Britain it would be "invite" whether this is actually an organization or not.

Wow, getting to the nitty gritty. LOL ;) (0.00 / 0)

[ Parent ]
Mark (0.00 / 0)
I am pretty sure that you were not supposed to post that on the internet.

[ Parent ]
Why do you say that Bridget? (0.00 / 0)
This is a candidate who needs all the help she can get as quickly as she can get it to get her petition signatures. There was no notice in the email that it should be some kind of secret and frankly citing the above that'd be ludicrous.
What's wrong with letting people know where they can learn more about Morgenthaler especially if they are expected to volunteer going door to door to get signatures?

[ Parent ]
Furthermore (0.00 / 0)
If I got the e-mail -- which I did -- then it must have been circulated pretty widely. It's hard to imagine anyone seeing it on the internet who the group wouldn't have sent it too if they had had that person's internet address.

Jill Morgenthaler (3.50 / 2)
Jill was at the Addison Township meeting last week and I was looking forward to supporting someone with the same outlook as Duckworth but I was very dissapointed. Her opinion on Iraq is to gather allies and get us out by 2010. When asked if that didn't work she felt we should still work on it because we can't "seem weak" or we will be attacked again. How many times do we have to tell them Iraq had NOTHING to do with 9/11!! I'm also concerened with her view about homeland security- she is looking to our northern borders- I'm looking at the best communication between police and fireman.
I did agree with her views on education and healthcare but time constrants prevented a complete picture of her views.

If she gets on the ballot (3.50 / 2)
There will be a contested primary between her and Mr. Jagla and you will be able to choose your preference to represent your party as the candidate.

That said, the only candidate you'll ever agree with 100% is yourself. (Unless you happen to be Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani, etc.)

[ Parent ]
Yes, but... (0.00 / 0)
...that last comment (apart from some good and well-deserved snark) is an "all or nothing" fallacy. Nobody insists on a hundred percent agreement. But if disagreements are wide enough and on issues significant enough, there comes a point at which one can't bring oneself to support the candidate in question. That's true, I think, of just about anybody who's active in electoral politics -- it's only a matter of where you draw the line.

"In order for somebody to win an important, major fight 100 years hence, a lot of other people have got to be willing -- for the sheer fun and joy of it -- to go right ahead and fight, knowing you're going to lose." -- I.F. Stone

[ Parent ]
Morgenthaler has already... (0.00 / 0)
...made it on to TPM Election Central and Eschaton and the reviews are none too positive. All anybody knows about her views on Iraq have been encapsulated into the statements from her blog back in 2004. I emailed her this am to the addy I got the invitation to yesterday's meeting from telling her about those posts and urged her to get something up on the net with her positions on it. We'll see what happens I guess.

[ Parent ]
But if you only have two choices... (0.00 / 0)
...You go with the one you prefer. My intention was not to present an "all or nothing" fallacy but when you vote, the vote is for one candidate over all others (which in and of itself is "all or nothing").

Unless you're in the race yourself, you're going to have to weigh the candidates and choose the one you agree with the most (or, at times, dislike the least). If the given choices are truly that bad, you do also have the last resort option to leave that race blank by undervoting.

At least Dems in the 6th will again have a choice in their primary.

As was pointed out in 2006 (I think by Hiram), Dems have primaries in the 6th, 10th, 14th, etc. Says a lot of good things about basic interest level in the Democratic Party!

[ Parent ]
Not to mention (0.00 / 0)
the 3rd!  Yea for Pera running against Lipinski!

Yes, it is good to see so many contested primaries: it does raise the level of interest in any given race ....
