(Added "How we can Make IL-13 Competitive" to the title. - promoted by wegerje)

Il-13 truly has a viable, ideologically correct candidate with the means to focus all of his energies on the campaign for the next 13 months.

Now the unpleasantries.  Although on this web page we are all into ideaology, in the outside world viability is measured by the funds one raises.  The magic "attention getter" is about $100,000 early money on the FEC report.  September 30 is the end of the next reporting period. Scott Harper has loaned his campaign $50,000. The rest of us need to match that--and we have a bit over two weeks to put our money where our mouths are. We've griped for years that we did not have credible candidates(Yep,I was even griping in 2004):).  We have one now.  Many PACS and Senators will not even talk to candidates until they know they can raise funds.  We have no time to discuss whether or not that is fair.  If 500 people give $100. each you in the next two weeks you may end up with a democratic Congressman. If you can give more-do so--and no donation is too little--because the number of donations is also listed on the FEC report.  If you fund a candidate you will vote for them-ultimately votes become the bottom line.

In 2002 with little campaining the d received 29% of the vote, in 2004 with $35,000 the candidate received 35% of the vote---and last election Joe Shannon received 42% of the vote after spending $50,000.  A well funded well managed campaign can win.  Scott Harper has an MBA, a successful business background and a management team in place.  The demographics have changed in the district.  Will County's population has been growing and they have elected more and more democrats.  DuPage is ready to turn and was just waiting for a real candidate.  You have one. Fund him.

His campaign is organized.  Go to http://www.scottharp...

This is a winnable district (according to what I've read there are more Democrats then Republicans). We just need the right person and the right message.

Gloria, thanks for writing this (0.00 / 0)
Though Scott has been commenting here, seeing his website was great, and reading his issue positions is incredibly inspiring.  It reminds me of the early days of the Cegelis campaign (2004) when I would read things Christine had written and would marvel at the existance of a candidate that would say the things that so desperately needed saying.

I don't want to jinx things, but this could be a second chance to do what we should have done in 2004/2006.

I'm in for $100. I'll do it online before the end of the day.  And I know $100 bucks is a bit steep for some folks -- if that is the case, why not email a few of your politcal junkie buddies and tell them to go in with you on it ...?

Basic stuff: The common wealth should be used for the common good, not to enrich the well-connected few.

This is very exciting! (0.00 / 0)
I am also in for the $100.00.  Scott looks like a great candidate.

Thanks to all (0.00 / 0)
I really appreciate the kind words. I've met or talked to some of you, and would love to meet all of you.

What Gloria says is true. I've been networking with political professionals in Illinois and from Washington, and the refrain is the same - raise money.

Money won't turn me into a monster. We're going to also run a well-organized insurgent-inspired campaign, but some of that needs to be done with inspiring print, and clever spots, to complement canvassing, events, and PR.

That's what we will put the money toward down the road. Right now, it's symbolic of the faith that people have in the district and in the grassroots that we can win - and I think we can. September 30th is the end of the fiscal quarter and an FEC reporting deadline.

I'm spending four hours a day calling, but every $25, or $100 that you can give makes a real difference.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

We can do this...

the issue of money (0.00 / 0)
there are some things you need money for, that inspired volunteers cant substitute for.  literature, signs, office space, etc.  this is the threshold question, and id love to get some experts' opinions on what they think those numbers are in this race.  anybody?

keep up the calling, it sucks but putting the effort in proves you are serious about this.  as one who often thinks raising lots of money does make a monster, the issue is whether you change because of it.  whether you cease to say and fight for what you believe in in the interest of raising money.  whether you cease to honestly keep the idea of the "greatest good for the greatest number" forefront in your mind.  and the sad part for us volunteers is we can never know for sure.  so just keep speaking from the heart.

thanks for running.

Kudos to Christine (4.00 / 1)
I just wanted to let all of you on PSB know that I met with Christine C. yesterday for a couple hours. I found her penetrating, wise, kind-hearted, razor-sharp, and helpful.

Having met her now, I am honored to be compared to her. And I will try with all my might to get someone like us elected. And I wish she were running next door in IL-6 this time. (But of course I understand that given 2 campaigns and the way things played out that she needs a break).

Thanks Yoda, and thanks Christine.

I'm looking forward to the change in Congress! (0.00 / 0)
I'm in for $200.

Time to put my money where my mouth is.

Lose Andersen (0.00 / 0)
Andersen's just a female version of Shimkus (IL-13).  Both are delusional in their belief that they work for the public & not their favorite campaign donors!  2008 should be the year to put this sad excuse of a representative in permanent retirement.

Lose Biggert? (0.00 / 0)
I hope you mean lose Biggert.  Gloria Anderson was the Democratic candidate in the 13th in 2004.  She has worked tirelessly for other candidates in that area.

Oops--my bad! (0.00 / 0)
Thanx spotcat. Didn't even see it until you said something. Hate it when I do that.

Sorry about that Gloria!! Got the names switched.
