Will Quinn's re-election be derailed by a math problem?

Fred Couch, Jr., 16, was shot to death shortly after 8 pm outside a South Side convenience store. The Cook County State's Attorney charge Randall White, 42, with homicide in the case. See Chicago Breaking News (Matthew Walberg). h/t Rich Miller (Capitol Fax Blog)

White was paroled early (December 16, 2009) from a prison sentence (for a crime with a firearm) that was supposed to end no earlier than August, 2010. The spokesperson for Illinois Department of Corrections, Januari Smith, explained that Smith had received 180-days credit for good behavior. Smith denied White sentence was cut short under Gov. Pat Quinn's now-discontinued MGT Push program.

But counting back on a calendar from sometime in August means White should not have been released before sometime in February.

Do we know for sure the reason for the early release? (0.00 / 0)
Before this respected site is the vehicle for half accusations, do we know all of the information in this case?

At least Rich Miller is trying to do the follow-up work... (0.00 / 0)
to get official reactions to the info.

two possibilities were thrown out (0.00 / 0)
on Cap Fax Blog.

1. Either drug rehab or education programs gave White more than 180 days early release.

2. Credit for time White was held in county jail prior to conviction account for the difference.

Option 2 seems plausible to me. Januari Smith's performance is less than competent if #2 is true, but hey being inept is better than causing someone's death through penny-pinching.

Someone is now claiming White's incarceration date (0.00 / 0)
in Cook County Jail was June 16, 2007.

If so, it appears that his release was in accordance with policy and procedure.

The problem at Department of Corrections seems to be the inept spokesperson (provided the info posted anonymously checks out).
