Oh and she's the President's Alderman and maybe his earliest elected supporter. I know that one up close. Perfect? Nope - and she's honest enough to tell you that herself. Remember how Howard Dean never shied away from his gun position/ Most of us disagreed but we respected him for being honest and consistent. After 18 or so years in the Chicago City Council, she'll have things folks will tell you about to pry you away from her. Check character. Personal story. I was privileged to have been a precinct captain for Toni back in the day, including the first time she won in '91. Toni, a light-skinned African-American, has a white husband. Great guy, btw, cool name too. Anyway, one day folks from the north part of the ward started coming into the campaign office with flyers they'd pulled down that read, "Toni talks black but sleeps white.' She did not fire back, even though everyone knew where they came from. She won with class, in a race for Alderman. She's tough, she's plenty smart, and she has principles. Oh, and btw - since after she wins she'll face Tony-with-a-Y (aka nutbar), she'll need to be all three. Yeah, I know, that normally disqualifies one for CC Board Pres. Isn't it TIME to stop having to say that? Get out and DO SOMETHING locally to make Cook County a place progressives can be proud of. Eric the Red |
