It is TIME for the netroots groundswell for Toni-with-an-I

It is TIME to not feel ashamed to live in "Crook County" anymore. It is TIME for the second largest County in the US to no longer be a punchline. It is TIME to start to roll back the hereditary monarchies (Stroger, Daley, Madigan, Hynes, etc.) in Illinois. It is TIME for progressives in Illinois to get full-on behind Toni Preckwinkle for President of the Cook County Board.

Smart? Indeed - AB and AM from U of C. Not givin' those away for clout. Progressive? Check how many times she's voted against Daley and with us on our key issues - and with people like Joe Moore. Start with the living wage for example. Gets things done? She inherited over 3,000 empty lots in her Ward and I think the total now, after 18 years, is down to like 30. That's not talking about change, that's change we can see.

Yes there are some Congressional races to be concerned about, a few, and Gov. Quinn of course, but progressives in Cook County have a chance to make real change. It is freakin' TIME my friends. (more below) tonipreckwinkle.org

Oh and she's the President's Alderman and maybe his earliest elected supporter. I know that one up close.

Perfect? Nope - and she's honest enough to tell you that herself. Remember how Howard Dean never shied away from his gun position/ Most of us disagreed but we respected him for being honest and consistent. After 18 or so years in the Chicago City Council, she'll have things folks will tell you about to pry you away from her. Check character.

Personal story. I was privileged to have been a precinct captain for Toni back in the day, including the first time she won in '91. Toni, a light-skinned African-American, has a white husband. Great guy, btw, cool name too. Anyway, one day folks from the north part of the ward started coming into the campaign office with flyers they'd pulled down that read, "Toni talks black but sleeps white.'

She did not fire back, even though everyone knew where they came from. She won with class, in a race for Alderman.

She's tough, she's plenty smart, and she has principles. Oh, and btw - since after she wins she'll face Tony-with-a-Y (aka nutbar), she'll need to be all three. Yeah, I know, that normally disqualifies one for CC Board Pres. Isn't it TIME to stop having to say that? Get out and DO SOMETHING locally to make Cook County a place progressives can be proud of.

And it occurs to me that while people are speculating about who is going to run, here is someone who actually is running. And building momentum, as this diary shows.

well... (0.00 / 0)
much of the speculation comes out of all the back-room maneuvering to get todd out of the way, preferably with a soft landing...

"We have a lot of kids on the ground acting like adults and we have a lot of adults in this room acting like kids," President Obama told his advisors about all the infighting

The back-room maneuvering is to get Dorothy Brown IN... (0.00 / 0)
to the race, IMHO.

Campaigning (0.00 / 0)
I'm not looking for someone to vote for; I'm looking for someone to campaign for.

And "She voted against the parking meter sale" looks like a great campaign issue.

In the city (0.00 / 0)
In the suburban parts of the county, no one will have the faintest idea what you're talking about.

But different messages in different parts of the country is hardly unreasonable.

Now Danny's looking at it? The Chicago Sun-Times says... (0.00 / 0)
Danny Davis is exploring a run.  I like Danny, but, why?

I know Danny has looked at it before, but, why in now, only after Forrest is out?

It was off base.

Somebody was trying to spin me and I assumed s/he was the victim of spin. But s/he was working me with some information that was garbage and I made an inference that appears to be incorrect.

O'Brien says he might (4.00 / 1)
Launching a test flare into the perceived Claypool void, MWRD pres Terrence J. O'Brien, a board member for two decades, put out a press release, via Grainger Terry, Inc., saying he is "strongly considering running" for Cook County Board President in 2010. O'Brien touts his own "strong record of fiscal responsibility."

I thought publicizing every thought that passes one's mind is supposed to be done on Twitter rather than thru a press release. :)
