In a recent piece at the Huffington Post, Sally Kohn eloquently wrote:
The single greatest thing we can do to honor the spirit of Obama’s campaign and life work is bring as much enthusiasm to holding Obama accountable as we did to electing him.

Personally, I could not agree more. I’m sure some people will be hesitant to begin pushing Obama. Many of you are still reveling in the glory of this historic election and want nothing more than to keep believing the ballots cast on November 4th will equal the change we need.

But our civic engagement cannot end with Election Day. Obama’s campaign proved that America can truly harness its people power for positive and progressive change. NOW is the time to keep that momentum rolling. Ok, so, how can you help?

For a start, you can tune into the December 4th event “ Realizing the Promise: A Forum on Community Faith and Democracy , organized by the Campaign for Community Values and the Gamaliel Foundation (for which Obama once worked) at which thousands of grassroots leaders will unveil the People’s Platform for Economic Recovery to the new President and Congress.

Check out this great video. about the FORUM and what Realizing the Promise means...

AND EVEN MORE IMPORTANTLY - Rep. Luis Gutierrez of ILLINOIS will be attending the Forum and engaging in direct discussions around our shared vision for the next administration.

Juan Williams, Senior Correspondent from NPR will be moderating the event and other CONFIRMED attendees include: Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) Rep. Elect Tom Perriello (D-VA) Rep. John Sarbanes (D-MD) Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD)

Members of the President-elect Obama's Transition Team: Ms. Valerie Jarrett - Co-Chairman, Obama-Biden Transition Project & White House Senior Advisor and Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental Relations and Public Liaison

Ms. Melody Barnes (Named as Director of the Domestic Policy Council for President Elect Obama's White House)

The event will be streamed LIVE on December 4th from 3PM – 6PM EST. For those who tune into watch, you are invited to join an open discussion forum and submit questions to be posed directly to the panels during the event.

You can submit a question at www.realizingthepromise.org/discuss.

Realizing the Promise will be the key event of the season in which everyday Americans bring their shared agenda to Washington. Will you be there?

Sounds like a great event. (0.00 / 0)
Why should people hesitate?  This is what Obama asked us to do after the election.  Change comes from the people.

Yes he should have his feet held to the fire and made accountable. (4.00 / 1)
I must admit that I find the current handwringing about Obama's personnel choices and future agenda to be more than somewhat humorous.  But then again, I seem to remember writing a post about no longer giving Obama the benefit of the doubt in the summer of 2007.  But enough about bad memories, or waiting for apologies, let's pressure him into enacting the right policies.
