Naperville – Scott Harper, the Democratic candidate for Congress in the 13th district, today filed his first-quarter fundraising report with the Federal Elections Commission, shattering every significant fundraising record ever held here by a Democratic candidate.
Harper reported raising $134,115 this quarter with $103,463.54 cash on hand. By March 31 of this year, Harper had raised $247,410, which is more than any Democratic candidate in this district has ever raised for an entire cycle.
“I’m thrilled by our strong support from the people of this district who are clearly ready for a change in Washington,” said Harper. “For too long, Judy Biggert has pretended to be a moderate when she’s really just a rubber stamp for George Bush and his radical agenda. But this time, she won’t be able to run from her record.”
Harper’s first quarter total exceeds the combined first quarter totals of the Democratic candidates in the 13th district over the last ten years. He is also the first candidate in 16 years to have raised more than $200,000 by the end of March.
“The families of this district are concerned about their future and the future of their children,” said Harper. “From ending the war in Iraq to growing jobs in our community to protecting our air and water, the people here want a leader who will fight for change in Washington.
He continued, “I am so honored by the tremendous outpouring of support that people here have shown me as I seek to represent them in Congress.”
Because of his strong showing this quarter, the 13th Congressional District was also added as a targeted race to watch by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (http://www.dccc.org/page/content/races_greatlakes.)
