It appears that the Scott Harper (Donate, Web) campaign against IL-13's Judy Biggert is getting some notice by the DCCC. According to Mose Buchele over at Progress Illinois, the DCCC has added IL-13 as a "Targeted Republican" in their Illinois List. Mose says last time he checked there were only six listed Illinois districts and now there are seven, with the new one being IL-13. They don't yet mention Scott's name as the Democratic opponent but I have to believe that that is where they are headed. When I visited Scott a while back he mentioned that he was going to be hosting a visit from the DCCC to look at his campaign. They must have liked what they saw.

Could another Illinois Red to Blue district with Scott's picture be in our future. I for one will not be surprised if the answer becomes yes.

Naperville – Scott Harper, the Democratic candidate for Congress in the 13th district, today filed his first-quarter fundraising report with the Federal Elections Commission, shattering every significant fundraising record ever held here by a Democratic candidate.

Harper reported raising $134,115 this quarter with $103,463.54 cash on hand.  By March 31 of this year, Harper had raised $247,410, which is more than any Democratic candidate in this district has ever raised for an entire cycle.

“I’m thrilled by our strong support from the people of this district who are clearly ready for a change in Washington,” said Harper.  “For too long, Judy Biggert has pretended to be a moderate when she’s really just a rubber stamp for George Bush and his radical agenda.  But this time, she won’t be able to run from her record.”

Harper’s first quarter total exceeds the combined first quarter totals of the Democratic candidates in the 13th district over the last ten years.   He is also the first candidate in 16 years to have raised more than $200,000 by the end of March.

“The families of this district are concerned about their future and the future of their children,” said Harper.  “From ending the war in Iraq to growing jobs in our community to protecting our air and water, the people here want a leader who will fight for change in Washington.

He continued, “I am so honored by the tremendous outpouring of support that people here have shown me as I seek to represent them in Congress.”

Because of his strong showing this quarter, the 13th Congressional District was also added as a targeted race to watch by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (http://www.dccc.org/page/content/races_greatlakes.)

This one surprised me! (0.00 / 0)
I l-o-v-e the attention they're putting on Illinois this year. I wonder why? I actually live about 100 ft. outside of the 13th in the 11th (it's at the back line of my property, actually), so this is awesome news. Go Scott!!

Great presentation (0.00 / 0)
Harper spoke to NDFA last Thursday.
It was a great presntation. I think we'll be cobcentrating North rather than South, but it looks like a good chance.

10, 11, 13, 14 (although 14 is technically no longer a turnover possibility). IL looks likely to go blue this year.

Much bluer (0.00 / 0)

I should have said "much bluer."

This is so great to see (0.00 / 0)
Harper's not only putting in the time necessary to make the fundraising calls he's going about it the right way. I was phonebanking at campaign HQ a few weeks ago and couldn't help
but overhear some of his conversations. Cold calling asking for campaign contributions is the most onerous job a congressional candidate has. The serious ones know they have to spend half their time on it if they really want to win. He's got a real knack for these calls which isn't easy to master, especially when you're fighting entrenched skepticism that's existed since before most of us were born.

He's got a real professional team around him who are bright funny people who all work together with each other and
all the disparate activists who show up to volunteer. You want to help out a local candidate you can believe in and forget about all the animosity that goes with Democratic politics around here and help local down ballot candidates which he's coordinating with then Scott Harper is the candidate you ought to spend your time with.
